SECOND YEAR

Building on the foundation of the R1 year, the R2 (PGY3) year is focused on transitioning to independent practice. Having developed keen clinical instincts, residents are equipped to staff and lead the consultation services. They continue to grow as neurologists by supervising and mentoring their R1 colleagues. In addition, residents start their first Neurocritical Care rotation in our Neurology staffed dedicated intensive care unit while continuing to develop their skills in their second pediatric neurology rotation at Lenox Hill Hospital.  Residents also rotate with Behavioral Health on their Consultation and Liaison Services at SIUH or Lenox Hill Hospital and have additional elective opportunities to experience neurologic subspecialties.  This is also the year where residents, under the guidance and mentorship of the program directors, mentors and other faculty, start to focus on their career goals and clinical focus.
